What: Mercy Health Partners Center for Cancer Care Name Unveiling

When: July 26, 2007 11:00 a.m. - noon

Where: Mercy Health Partners, Mercy Campus lawn
1500 East Sherman Boulevard

The gift, from a local family in support of the cancer center, will help fund the construction and operations of the new facility.

"The kindness and generosity of this family will be felt by generations to come who are touched by cancer," said Roger Spoelman, President and CEO of Mercy Health Partners. "We are excited and honored to display the family’s name on our hospital and to celebrate their gift to the lakeshore community."

For over 15 years, Mercy has been providing oncology services to this community. In 2006, Mercy ’s Cancer Program received Accreditation with Commendation from the American College of Surgeons.  Radiation Therapy has been identified as a significant form of cancer treatment lacking for Mercy patients who sent a clear message they wish to receive their radiation therapy at Mercy. With development of the Center for Cancer Care, Dr. Nina Johnson, Radiation Oncologist, will be joining Mercy as Medical Director.  Patients who now receive their medical oncology treatment at Mercy will benefit by having radiation oncology care available in the same location.

The Center for Cancer Care will be located at the current Orthopaedic Associates building on the Mercy Campus and will include radiation therapy, medical oncology, treatment and examination rooms, a resource library, conference rooms, private family meeting rooms, a specialty boutique and an outdoor healing garden. The healing garden will provide respite and renewal for patients, their family and friends.
