Sandy Corley Memorial Run Proceeds Reach $1 Million Mark
Muskegon, MI, August 5, 2008 -- Over two hundred bikers and friends celebrated the 20th Annual Sandy Corley Memorial Run, which raised funds for cancer patients along the lakeshore. Rick Corley, from Sandy's Harley Davidson, and representing the Fremont Harley Owners Group presented a record $150,725 check in remembrance of Sandy Corley. This year, the Sandy Corley Memorial Run hit the $1 million mark of raising money to support cancer services since the Run started in 1988.
Led by police escort, 107 bikers traveled along US-31 from Fremont to Muskegon and rode in a ceremonial procession around the Mercy Health Partners campus. A ceremonial check presentation was held inside the new Johnson Family Center for Cancer Care.
"This is a very successful event and the Sandy Corley Memorial Run Cancer Board has played an integral part in ensuring it has continued for twenty years," said Roger Spoelman, President and CEO, Mercy Health Partners. "We are honored to be the recipient of this generous gift - over $1 million in twenty years. Your ongoing commitment to support cancer patients along the West Michigan shoreline is truly outstanding," he said.
The Johnson Family Center for Cancer Care opened in April, in partnership with Cancer and Hematology Center of Western Michigan, Mercy Health Partners, and Nina Johnson, MD, PC. The Center was made possible, in part, by a major gift received from the Paul C. Johnson Foundation in partnership with members of the Charles E. and Patricia B. Johnson family. The new Center provides a patient-centered model of care for cancer patients and includes a wide range of services and programs with the latest technology in the area.,
Mercy Health Partners is the second largest health system in West Michigan with more than 4,300 associates, four hospitals and 375 physicians and a number of exclusive specialty physician-care services for the region.
